My name is Peter Lane; I am an antique dealer in Hobart Tasmania.

My client is in regional New South Wales; he has no internet and no smartphone and wishes to donate a group of Picasso ceramics to his Regional Art Gallery. They will join the other groups of art he and his deceased partner have already given.

I copy, print and post A4 photos of La Galloise Art’s Picasso stock with prices, he chooses several.

Written discussions proceed, time passes, condition reports need more detailed photos – copied,sent, discussed, more time passes.

Meanwhile his bank has mishandled the cashing out of a term deposit, more time, the invoice is given the bank for the transfer, the bank branch says “are you sure - it’s probably a scam!”.

They refuse to send!

Client more or less panics! I arrange for bank head office to intervene, Client agrees to meet them, he travels by train to Head office in Sydney. Money is TT’d, it is received and the ceramics sent and collected by Regional Art Gallery. My client is generous with my commission.

Peter Langstraat allowed much of his stock to be held aside for months. He answered every question, sent endless photos, meticulously packed the lot and kept faith though it all."
