description

Jean Cocteau - Faune Musicien

Jean Cocteau (1889–1963), a renowned French artist and writer, created the ceramic piece titled "Faune Musicien" ("Musician Faun") in 1958. This work exemplifies Cocteau's distinctive linear style and his fascination with mythological themes.

The piece is a partially glazed white earthenware plate, measuring approximately 31 centimeters (12.2 inches) in diameter. It features a stylized depiction of a faun playing a musical instrument, rendered in colored engobe—a liquid clay slip used for decoration. The faun is portrayed in profile, capturing a sense of movement and musicality.

Each plate from this series is signed and dated "Jean Cocteau 1958" on the front. The reverse bears the inscription "Edition originale de Jean Cocteau, Atelier Madeline-Jolly," along with the edition number, indicating its authenticity and origin from the Madeline-Jolly workshop.

Cocteau's collaboration with the Madeline-Jolly workshop allowed him to explore the medium of ceramics, resulting in unique pieces that blend his artistic vision with traditional craftsmanship. The "Faune Musicien" plate is a testament to this fruitful partnership, showcasing Cocteau's ability to infuse classical mythology with modern artistic expression.

A must-have product

"But in certain circumstances and owing to the claims of duty or the obligations of business it will frequently occur that pleasures have to be repudiated and annoyances accepted. The wise man therefore always."

Larry Lawson

Amazing...loved it

image

"It uses a dictionary of over 200 Latin words, combined with a handful of model sentence structures, to generate Lorem Ipsum which looks reasonable. The generated Lorem Ipsum is therefore always free from repetition, injected humor, or non-characteristic words , etc."

Lori Stevens

Highly recommended!

image

"The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form."

Bryan Knight

Wonderful Product

image

"Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more."
